Overview

Metro Paramedic Services, Inc. is a subsidiary of Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Services, Inc. We contract with local municipalities to provide Emergency Medical Services, Rescue and/or Fire Services. Much of our proven success is attributable to the exceptional, compassionate customer service provided by our employees.   

 

The basic function of the Paramedic Supervisor is to provide direction and supervision for Firefighting and medical care and transportation for patients at the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) level, within their scope of practice, as stipulated by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the CDH EMS.  In addition to regular Firefighter/Paramedic responsibilities, the Contract Manager acts as a liaison between shift employees, Metro’s Operations Manager, Fire Department Command Staff, and the Village.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall management of Contract, Paramedic/Firefighters.
  • Respond to EMS/Fire Incidents
  • Responsible for overall management of shift operations, including maintenance of vehicles and EMS equipment.
  • QA/QI of all emergency incident for all calls performed on given shift. 
  • Draft and prepare work schedules.
  • Approve trade time, paid time off, and other work schedule modifications.
  • Responsible for all members of the shift are performing in a professional, empathetic and required manner.
  • Responsible for all members of shift arriving for duty in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for overall oversight of all EMS/Fire Crews and ride-along personnel during their tour of duty.
  • Communicate with Fire Department personnel and its command staff to assure adequate operations.
  • Notify corporate offices of any equipment or vehicle malfunction as necessary and arrange for immediate corrective action.
  • Conducts performance appraisals on Paramedic/Firefighters.
  • Directs the work of on-duty Paramedic/Firefighters.
  • Prepare and process any employee corrective action forms as needed.  Counsel, reprimand employees as needed.
  • Shift Supervisor will be assigned to the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle and would immediately respond to incidents, likely arrive on scene before the ambulance, and immediately begin providing patient care. Once the ambulance arrives on scene, the Shift Supervisor Paramedic assigned to the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle would transfer patient care to the paramedics assigned to the ambulance and the Shift Supervisor would provide direction to the ambulance personnel based on the Shift Supervisor’s assessment of the patient. The ALS Rapid Response Vehicle would then go back in service and be ready and available for the next EMS call, while the ambulance transports the patient. 
  • In the event that both of the Glen Ellyn ambulances are already committed to calls or treating patients, the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle and Shift Supervisor will respond to the next call and begin patient care while waiting for a neighboring mutual aid ambulance to arrive on scene. The ALS Rapid Response Vehicle would possess all the tools needed to provide immediate patient care, at the Advance Life Support level, while waiting for a mutual aid ambulance to arrive from a neighboring municipality or fire district.
  • If only one of the two Glen Ellyn ambulances are committed to a call, and an EMS call is received on the opposite end of the Village from which the available ambulance is located, the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle will respond to the call simultaneously with the remaining Glen Ellyn ambulance. Once the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle arrives on scene, the Shift Supervisor can immediately begin to triage and provide immediate care to the patient, while waiting for the ambulance to arrive on scene. Once the ambulance arrives on scene, the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle can transfer patient care to the ambulance personnel. The ambulance personnel can then transport the patient to the hospital, while the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle will be back in service and available for the next EMS call in the event both ambulances are committed to other calls or treating patients. While the two ambulances are out of town, or committed to other calls, the ALS Rapid Response Vehicle can position itself in the center of the Village, and be available for immediate response, until one or both of the ambulances become available and return to the Village’s limit.
  • The ALS Rescue Vehicle, and its personnel, can respond in lieu of fire apparatus and FD personnel that are currently dispatched to certain types of EMS calls when additional manpower is needed. NOTE – fire apparatus and FD personnel would still be needed to respond to other types of calls, such as traffic accidents and/or technical rescue calls, since the fire apparatus is equipped with the appropriate rescue tools.  

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 25 years of age
  • Have HS Diploma or GED
  • IL State EMT-P certification
  • EMS Lead Instructor Desired, not mandatory
  • Valid Driver’s License & good driving record
  • Consent to criminal background check, and able to pass the pre-employment testing including a complete physical & lifting agility examination along with a successful interview. 
  • State of Illinois Basic Firefighter Certification
  • ACLS & PALS Certification or possess within 6 months
  • PHTLS/ BTLS Certification or possess within 6 months
  • Previous experience managing personnel

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is consistently required to sit; use hands, fingers, handle, feel; and talk, hear & see.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.  The employee is occasionally required to work under high pressure in a fast-paced environment with employees in multiple locations.  Travel to other company and incident locations is required.  Lifting requirements of a minimum of 75 lbs.
 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly in verbal contact with others and constantly works face-to-face with and around others.  Consistently uses office equipment such as computers, typewriters, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, keyboard, calculator, stapler, etc.  Constantly uses all paramedic-related equipment and drives ambulance in partnership with other paramedics or supervisors.

Wage

USD $27.04/Hr.
